Summer days
Summer has arrived and I have to say I am really enjoying the long hot days, it feels like a "proper" summer. Yet, like most of us, the heatwaves have been a struggle at times. The thermometer in the studio has regularly hit 33C which is very usual. On those days, the last thing you feel like doing is lighting a gas torch to solder, or putting on a mask and apron to polish jewellery. But I'm not going to grumble! Someone told me there are only 26 more Fridays before Christmas. Now, there's a thought!
I have been working on many wonderful commissions, many of those are recycling clients gold jewellery. This nugget of gold, formed by melting my clients sentimental rings, became a new ringset similar to those below.
This is a two band ringset, with a beautiful Champagne diamond and round white diamond. I love the muted tones, and the proportions of the two diamonds side by side, fortunately so did Helen, my client.
I worked with (another!) Helen and her collection of sapphires, a tanzanite garnet and diamonds to make a very special wedding and engagement ring set for her. She too was delighted, which brings a smile to my face.
We have escaped the Herefordshire countryside on various road trips around the UK this summer. North Norfolk was just one of them. We walked for miles on the coast path; mooching through the small towns and villages, having picnics on the beach and relaxing with Ali our dog. 
Exploring the Yorkshire Dales was also such a treat. My husband cycled the Coast to Coast route so Ali and I did many miles of walking and discovering lovely stops for tea and cake. 
The summer months do take on a slightly slower pace. I do try and relished these days, taking time to photograph things around me that always inspire me. I am lucky that there is plenty on my doorstep and while out walking with the dog, I try to take a few moments to capture the stillness and beauty of nature. The light is just so amazing at the moment.
... and talking of the dog, here she is, Ali. Perhaps not looking her most elegant in this photo, but I think she reflects how we have all felt over the last few weeks. Perhaps in my next post, I'll give you the back story to how we got her.
