Well the weather has been good, and the sun is blazing through my jewellery studio windows! We have the last jewellery making course of the year on Saturday 31st July. We will be making silver bangles using cold forging techniques with Georgina Franklin. This course is fully booked but we will run it again in 2011, dates will be here soon.

Last Saturday, Bronwen Tyler Jones taught a jewellery workshop about making lockets, including hinges and catches. The images from the day can be seen on the student’s gallery page.

August is the time for me to be making and bringing together ideas to add new pieces to my jewellery collections in preperation for Goldsmiths’s Fair, soon after followed by Dazzle and The Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair. I will add images of the work in progress on my twitter page, so do follow for all news and info. I will be adding new pieces of jewellery to my online contemporary jewellery shop in the coming weeks ahead too.

The jewellery course was very relaxed, making an enjoyable day, with everyone working on different projects. The day began with Georgina explaning the techniques and going through the many samples she had made, followed by a demonstration. It was then the students’ chance to plan a design and get started. Here are the images from the day.

On Friday 9th July I will be at the Ledbury Arts Market taking place in conjunction with Ledbury Poetry Festival 2010. It is on the High Street from 10am – 5pm and I am one of around 20 makers taking part. I will be selling my past collection pieces, samples I have made to demonstate techniques to students and slight seconds. All jewellery is priced very reasonably and needs a good home to go to!

I have been teaching quite a lot recently and you can see some of the work in the students gallery. My last jewellery course for this year is at the end of July, and then I turn my attention to making jewellery. From August onwards I focus on making new work alongside my current collection for shows in the run up to Christmas. I will be running jewellery courses again from January 2011, and dates will be posted here in September.

I had the pleasure of running a jewellery workshop for three lovely ladies on Saturday. We based the day around making rings and they very quickly decided on their designs. Both Pat and Sandra loved the same design, while Anne wanted to make a ring that worked with her own bangle and represented the members of her family. We enjoyed the hot summers day by sitting outside for lunch before returning to the studio to finish the rings. I managed to get some photographs, but as usual we were so busy I forgot to capture the early part of the day. The rings they made were lovely and everyone left the studio delighted!

On 19th June I ran a sandcasting workshop with 4 great students. Everyone had several attempts at casting and sweets seemed to be the order of the day! We had one stubborn key that we tried to cast several times, but it was a little on the thin side for the size of casting. Most students soldered jumprings and fixings to their castings and applied polished or matt finishes. Some pieces were left unfinished for be worked on at a later date.
