About

Sue at the bench

I set up my first studio in Hereford in 2000 after graduating from Middlesex University. My aim was to make a living from designing and making contemporary jewellery that was clearly recognisable as my work. Twelve years later I am living the dream, working from a studio in rural Herefordshire and doing something I love.

I have exhibited widely across the UK, and have enjoyed showing at Goldsmiths’ Fair for many years, as well as Origin at Somerset House in London, and previous to that Chelsea Craft Fair. The Hereford Contemporary Craft Fair is always one to look forward to as it is a perfect chance to meet up with customers and friends on my doorstep.

My collections are always evolving, though my trademark shapes and style are always evident. This is a natural progression, as a maker you constantly strive to improve and push the boundaries of your work and style. I often work to commission, a lovely aspect of what I do; as it is immensely personal.

At the bench

In 2004 I was asked to teach jewellery workshops to community groups, and this soon developed by word of mouth; and I rapidly built a reputation for running jewellery workshops. Now I run courses from my studio, teach one to one, and offer couples the chance to come and spend a day in the workshop to make their own wedding rings.

I enjoy passing on my knowledge to students in a simple and clear way, and several hours later seeing students delighted with the piece of jewellery they have made. For me, the combination of making and teaching work well together, co-ordinating teaching around quieter parts of the calendar.

Jewellery Buying Information

Buying work couldn’t be easier. Simply choose the piece you would like to order, then you can either purchase via my on-line contemporary jewellery shop, or over the telephone if you prefer. Most major credit and debit cards can be accepted over the telephone, and we also accept bank transfers and cheques – contact me for details.

Ring sizing

When purchasing on-line, you have the opportunity to select your ring size before adding a ring to the shopping basket. There is also a ‘not sure’ option. If you select this, you will automatically receive a ring sizer via the post for you to identify your size. You can then simply call or email with the measurement. If you are ordering via the telephone, we will send you the ring sizer once the order has been taken. All rings will be made to the ring size you specify during the payment process. In the unlikely event that a rings does not fit, then I will re-size the ring free of charge (excluding return postage charges) providing it is returned within 14 days of delivery. You MUST contact me before returning any ring for a re-size. Rings must be returned via a fully insured delivery service. (Please note: I (Sue Lane) am not responsible for the delivery costs of returning a ring for re-sizing or for lost or damaged rings whilst in transit.)

Security

My on-line jewellery shop uses PayPal and is very secure. You do not need to have a PayPal account to use this facility, most major credit or debit cards are accepted.

Returns

Items can be returned within 14 days of purchase. You MUST contact me before returning any item. You will receive a full refund (excluding postage costs) within 14 days of receipt of the item, providing it is unworn and in its original packaging. All items must be returned via a fully insured delivery service. I (Sue Lane) am not responsible for the delivery costs of returned items or for lost or damaged items whilst in transit. Please note that all commissioned items are non-returnable.

Exchanges are allowed within 14 days of purchase. You MUST contact me before returning any item for an exchange. Should the item you are exchanging to have a higher value than the returned item, you will be sent an invoice for the additional amount (via PayPal if purchased on-line). This must be paid before the exchanged item will be despatched. All items must be returned via a fully insured delivery service. I (Sue Lane) am not responsible for the delivery cost of returned items or for lost or damaged items being returned for exchange whilst in transit.

Delivery

When your order has been received you will receive an email to advise you on the estimated delivery date. If the piece is in stock you should receive it within 5 working days. Please note that certain pieces are made to order and delivery may take up to 2 weeks. If you have an urgent order then please notify me at time of purchase, and I will do my best to ensure you have the piece for the date you need.

Guarantee

All items are guaranteed for 12 months from the date of purchase. Although diamonds are the hardest known natural mineral and virtually scratch resistant they are not indestructible. It is therefore sensible to remove diamond set rings during sports or during any form of manual work. A heavy knock can break a diamond or damage the setting.

All jewellery is packaged in lovely silver and black boxes and are sealed with black ribbon. The boxes are then carefully packaged to ensure the box and it’s contents are not damaged during transit.
